Malnutrition Crisis Worsens in Nigeria
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has raised an alarm over a worsening nutrition crisis in Nigeria, where approximately 400,000 children are at risk of preventable deaths due to severe acute malnutrition. A total of 3.5 million children in Nigeria are currently suffering from this condition, with mortality rates ranging from 3.7% to 7.7% in some areas.
The crisis is attributed to various factors, including poverty, climate change, food insecurity, and conflict. UNICEF and other international organizations are calling for urgent action to prevent these deaths, emphasizing the need for increased funding, skilled personnel, essential medicines, and treatment centers to reduce travel distances and increase access to care.
