Commends Governor Uzodimma For Injecting Youths In His Administration
Chief Anthony Ebere Ewelike, an Environmental scientist , Development expert and consultant, made the call in Owerri, the Imo State capital, while briefing newsmen on *"The Challenges Facing Youth Participation In Nigerian Politics".* He explained that the dearth of youth participation in the political process, in the absence of getting involved in genuine economic activities, was the cause of youth restiveness, insecurity, drug abuse, kidnapping, armed robbery, etc, while the political space in the country is filled by elderly people, who have run out of ideas but have kept recycling themselves in the political leadership of the country.
Chief Ewelike, however commended the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for ensuring that Imo youths are part of the 3-R Administration, and by so doing, effectively ending the saying, 'youths are the leaders of tomorrow".
In his words, the Oforola Owerri-west born intellectual said, *"Youths are no longer the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today, and I must commend Governor Hope Uzodimma for deliberately injecting the youth in various areas of governance in the state. This clearly shows he is a youth-friendly governor ".*
Speaking further on *"The Challenges Facing Youth Participation In Nigerian Politics",* Chief Ewelike noted that *"youth are the major fulcrum through which the society progresses or retards, depending on how they are engaged. If they are engaged as touts, political thugs, militants, unknown gunmen etc, the society suffers and pays dearly. But if they are engaged and deployed in the process of bringing the country to the path of greatness by participating in politics and nation building, they would drive the system to an enviable socioeconomic height. The youth should be trusted this time around, because we have come of age, and with our experiences and success in our individual professional fields, such as the business world, medical world, academic world, entertainment world, construction, etc, it is obvious that if given the opportunity, improved leadership would be experienced, but unfortunately, our older politicians appear to have hijacked and monopolized the political system. This is where Governor Hope Uzodimma is different. He has fatherly encouraged the youth to participate in the political process of the State by injecting them in his administration, and by so doing, given the signal that come 2027 and 2028, the youth will take over the leadership of Imo State and thereafter take the 3-RSharedProsperity leadership to a higher level".* Chief Ewelike concluded.
