Police Arrest 9 Suspects Over Kidnap, Murder of Anambambra Lawmaker"

AWKA - The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the kidnapping and gruesome murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, while returning home for Christmas. His lifeless body was found near the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 30, were arrested on February 6, 2025, during a joint operation by the police and Anambra State Vigentile Operatives.

The most notorious suspect, 20-year-old Peter Sunday, was found with a tattoo bearing the inscription "No peace 4 d Government" on his chest.

The police recovered two pump-action guns and arrested an additional suspect, Chidiebere Nwosu, linked to a kidnapping incident in Uruagu, Nnewi.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, paraded the suspects at the police headquarters in Awka, praising the efforts of his team and other stakeholders in the successful operation.

The police have also neutralized over 100 notorious criminals and destroyed several criminal camps in the state.

The arrest and parade of the suspects have brought relief to the family of the late lawmaker and the people of Anambra State.
