Breaking News: NYSC Corps Members To Get Backlog Of Delayed ₦77,000 Allowance

Federal Government Assures Payment

The Federal Government has pledged to pay National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members the outstanding balance of their increased monthly allowance, now set at ₦77,000. This follows an announcement on September 25, 2024, which declared an increase from the previous ₦33,000, to be effective from July 2024 ¹.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has reiterated the government's commitment to paying the arrears. He assured that both current corps members and those who served during the period of the announced increment will receive backdated payments. Olawande confirmed that the necessary details have been collected for these payments, but acknowledged that the payment may not happen immediately ¹.

"The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate but it will happen," Olawande stated. This assurance comes a week after the NYSC's new Director General, Olakunle Nafiu, indicated that the new allowance would begin to be paid in March ¹.
