Senator Oluremi Tinubu Commits to Supporting Efforts to End TB by 2030
Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has pledged N1 billion to support the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in Nigeria, with the goal of ending the disease by 2030 [1]. This commitment was made during the 2025 World Tuberculosis Day event held at Sauka Village, Abuja.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that ending TB requires a collective effort from government, traditional and religious leaders, legislators, healthcare workers, and international partners. She noted that the statistics on TB in Nigeria are alarming, with at least one person dying from the disease every seven minutes [1).
The First Lady's pledge is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which aims to strengthen TB control efforts in Nigeria. She also called on governments at all levels to prioritize expanding TB testing and treatment centers, strengthening community-based healthcare systems, and enhancing funding and partnerships to scale up TB control programs [1].
The event also featured a health talk on TB causes, symptoms, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as free testing for attendees. The theme for the 2025 World Tuberculosis Day is "Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, and Deliver" [1]
